BM CG THg Jun85b.jpg

Photo Balkanmodels: June 1985 shooting at Θγ and other steam ladies in the distance. I decided that the large lens will make me too conspicuous so I ended up with a nothing photo. At least one can see the flimsy fence that protected the area around the Engine Shed in Thessaloniki in those days. At least the large earthquake 7 years prior to this picture did not have a wall to damage as it did around the station area.

Interesting photos! What about the U.S.A logo type at tender? Its survive along time... and why ΣΕΚ and ΟΣΕ never change this?Maybe this steam loco retired too early and remaining like reserve?

These American locos had their USA logos changed by simply painting over them. With time the Greek layer of paint flaked off revealing the original logos. See also here viewtopic.php?f=16&t=253&p=3360#p3360

very interesting photos indeed! guess they would be very interesting for many US rail fans too

BTW, as I was looking at the older posts I noticed that the Θγ576 at page 3, strangely enough, has the numbering painted instead of the normal plates...

strangely enough, has the numbering painted instead of the normal plates...

The locos that came from Italy had their numbers painted at first. When their plates were made later by SEK, they were fitted then.

I was looking at the great compilation of old movie scenes at the RailTV http://www.railtv.gr/thitag.html

that's where I found out that the Θγ575 (Baldwin 70340, FS 736.073) has been sold in 1984 to the South Coast Steam (UK) and is fully operational as the WD701 ''Franklin D.Roosevelt''
guess Christo has visited her ;)

the photo has been found at this site http://www.railalbum.co.uk/steam-locomo ... s160-2.htm among other very interesting photos and info about the S-160

and some videos from youtube about ''our'' WD701
